Going into the game I wasn’t feeling quite confident due to our stinky displays at Old Trafford this season and I really did not think that Liverpool would lose…AGAIN. However I was thankfully proven wrong, we did what we should’ve done last week and silenced the scousers, had we taken our chances we would’ve gotten the anfield record ourselves instead of Burnley, Burnley breaking their streak when it was right in our cusp is like when you’re trying to win a toy in a claw machine and you get so close but cant finish it off and then the next guy comes and gets the toy you put all the work in for.
I was very happy with what I saw, we went with Pogba in the pivot rather than McFred and didn’t get exposed as people have said we would, with the exception of a few five minute spells I thought we were in control of the game even with the ‘tempo dictator’ Thiago on the field, leading his team to their 5th L with him in the starting line up. I still think we need to sign a top DM this summer as McFred’s passing and ability to control a game from deep isn’t good enough although they do have their uses.
Rashford X Greenwood
We killed them on the break with two very similar goals, the first was from a 10/10 ball from Rashford who’s playmaking has been immense the past year, even though Greenwood has been out of form this season when I seen him go one on one I knew there was only one result(even with that passion merchant trying to put him off by screaming). The second goal was a role reversal, this time Rashford capitalising on Philips mistake and slotting home another goal against Liverpool, that’s 4 in 4 against them at OT.
First was a ball played in between shaw and lindelof, I think lindelof was at fault here as he didn’t seem to know where he was, i’m not really sure why he was on that side in the first place as thats usually where Maguire is. Second goal was from a poor pass by Cavani, who other than that had a great game. You could argue the keeper should’ve done better but at that range it’s a bit harsh.
Bruno ‘Doesn’t show up in Big games’ Fernandes
What more is there to say about this guy, he didn’t score last week so this time decides he’ll bang home a free kick and knock out the scousers. I’ve found the ‘big game’ argument to be a bit strange considering he scored/assisted in all of them last year and then this season we literally haven’t scored a goal against the ‘traditional’ big 6 besides a peno scored against Spurs, not to mention he got a great goal and assist against Leicester(who lets be honest..have replaced Arsenal in the top 6). I would more say the lack of big game goals was a team issue in the way we set up but it was great to see that myth silenced yesterday!
