Premier League 2021/2022 Preview

We’re Back

After a nice(but short) summer break, premier league football is back upon us, which means agendas must be ran. We’re gonna start with a preview for the season in which I’ll go through my picks for the following:

  • My top 4
  • Relegated teams
  • Golden boot
  • Assists Leader
  • Golden glove
  • POTY and YPOTY candidates

I haven’t paid too much attention to what prem clubs have been doing this summer so as usual my main attention will be on the big 6 so lets begin!

My Top 4

  1. City
  2. Chelsea
  3. United
  4. Liverpool

Man City

If City had spent £0m I’d still have them coming first, now that they’ve added Grealish, who I think is a top 5 premier league player and look to be adding Kane too there’s really no looking past them. They’ve too many options and their players are at the right age, not much more needs to be said. The only potential weaknesses could be at CB and maybe at Defensive Midfield, if Ruben Diass who featured at the Euros for Portugal shows up then they could be in trouble, and if Pep uses his Cl final team that didn’t feature a DM then they could get exposed, however both these scenarios are very unlikely.

Chelsea

I think Chelsea have the next best chance, they spent 250m last summer and addressed all their remaining issues this summer (must be nice) so anything other than pushing City to the wire is failure if you ask me. They’re solid defensively, have brought in a goal scorer and are the European Champions, no excuses really. If City faulter Chelsea should be the team to capitalise.

Man United

In 3rd I have my beloved United, while we’ve improved with Varane and Sancho, we still haven’t addressed our defensive midfield issues which I think will ultimately be our downfall over the course of the season, get ready for more McFred against the relegation fodder unfortunately, if we had this team last season I’d have been more confident but with the arrival of Grealish and possible arrival of Kane, City are just too good. If Frank was still around I’d fancy our chances too but as I said, Chelsea will be serious this year so I think that leaves us 3rd(again..).

Liverpool

With the return of Fergal Van Dijk I hope most Liverpool fans are predicting the treble, given all we heard last year was that they would’ve won it all if he didn’t get injured. I agree as well, he’s the reason they didn’t score for about 34 games on the bounce. So with his return one would expect them to win the league right? Not me, at age 30 after doing his ACL I reckon he’s dusted, that combined with the lack of signings up top, I think they’ll be 4th at best, in what will be Klopp’s last year.

Relegation

This is a tough one cause I really haven’t been paying attention to that side of the table, you know the likes of Brentford, Watford, Arsenal etc so I don’t think I can give my usual highest level of analysis, but I’ll give it my best shot.

Burnley..the jig is up, it’s time to go, enough’s a enough. They’ve overstayed their welcome if you ask me and I think this year they finally go down. After Burnley I’m not 100% sure but my guess would be that come April the bottom 5 will look like(in no order)Burnley, Southampton, Watford, Brentford and Norwich. Could probably throw Newcastle in there too, they love a relegation battle.

Golden Boot

Lukaku *

My problem with Lukaku is I don’t think he’s clinical enough in front of goal, never mind his all round play(which is very underrated). For me, he’s not a 1 chance 1 goal striker but Chelsea will create enough chances for him not to need to be one so I fancy him to grab the Golden Boot as he does how to find the back of the net(eventually).

*if Kane stays at Spurs, otherwise Kane will get it if he moves to city.

Assists leader

Bruno for as many assists as he got last year, this year I think he gets more, our finishing was horrific at times and I’d like to think that isn’t continued this year which Bruno’s stats will benefit from.

Golden Glove

Mendy

Between being a very solid keeper and Chelsea’s 5 at the back formation, I think Mendy will grab the golden glove.

POTY Candidates

Pogba

Because it’s about damn time, we’re owed it.

KDB

He’s entered that Dani Alves category where he’ll get nominated and make TOTY regardless so not much point fighting it.

Bruno Fernandes

He’ll get too many goals and too many assists not to be in with a shout, if he can do it more against the ‘big 6’ he’ll have a great chance.

Salah

Very similar to Bruno, one of those players who will always score, he’ll probably grab 20 and be in and amongst with a shout.

Lukaku

I reckon he’ll get 25 goals and Chelsea will be right up there so hard to imagine him not being in with a shout.

YPOTY Contenders

Sancho

I don’t think people realise just how good he is, I expect a great debut season ahead for him where he showcases why he’s one of the best in Europe.

Saka

The worse Arsenal get, the higher this guys stock goes up, I think he’ll be one of a the few bright sparks in another terrible season for Arsenal.

Foden

Similar to KDB, they’re gonna nominate him regardless so I ain’t gonna fight it.

Havertz

After all the memes at the beginning of last season he ended up with a CL final goal, I can’t lie I’m worried about him this season.
